What better way to distract yourself from the rude exit of summer than to plan a few things to look forward over the next few weeks. From movies to end of summer BBQs, authentic Mexican pop ups to wine tastings, here are five of the best things happening in food and drink over the next fortnight...
'Pig' at Light House Cinema
Nicolas Cage's new movie 'Pig', about a reclusive truffle-hunter whose prized animal has been stolen, has been called "his most contemplative performance in years", with the Irish Times giving it five out of five. It's playing this week in the Light House Cinema in Smithfield, and prepare to have major truffle cravings post-viewing - if you're really clever you'll book a table in Grano for afterwards.
The end of Summer BBQ at Hen's Teeth
From 12pm until late this Sunday 5th September, Hen's Teeth will be signing off summer (sob) with an all day BBQ. It's a collaboration with the makers of Kold Sauce, so expect plenty of spice on the menu, as well as limited edition bottles, merch, and typically amazing food from the kitchen.
Order a picnic from Aoife Barker
Former L'Gueuleton Head Chef Aoife Barker's picnic boxes have been going down very well with customers, and this is your last week to grab one before she changes things up for Autumn. It's forecast to be 19c on Sunday so get planning for what could be your last picnic of 2021. Orders via Instagram.
Get Tickets For Neighbourhood Wine's First Wine Fair
Neighbourhood Wine on Leeson Street are holding their first wine fair on Sunday 12th September. Tickets are €40 (although ATF Insiders get an exclusive discount code for €15 off) and you'll spend an hour and 45 minutes tasting your way through loads of their range. Get your tickets here.
Book A Table At Mexican Pop Up Gabo
Chef Jules Mak isn't one to stand still, and his latest creation is Gabo, "an authentic Mexican dining experience", popping up in Hush, Rathmines on the 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th of September. He says that Hush has a kitchen full of Mexican chefs, and they've been working hard to make this one to remember. He's started to tease the menu, and you can book by sending him a DM on Instagram.
